Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 June 2026
Capture is a local-first desktop application. It has no servers, no accounts, and collects no analytics or telemetry. This page explains what stays on your device and what happens when you use the optional AI features.
What stays on your device
-
Everything you record or create — screen recordings, screenshots, audio, videos, and GIFs —
is saved only on your computer (by default in your
Videos\Capturefolder). Capture never uploads them. - Your preferences and any AI provider API keys or tokens you enter are stored locally in the app's settings file on your computer. They are sent only to the matching provider when you use AI features.
Optional AI features
When you click the AI buttons (Write script / Captions), the frames or images you selected and your text brief are sent to the AI provider you chose — OpenAI, Anthropic, GitHub Models, or GitHub Copilot — so it can generate a narration script or captions. That processing is governed by the chosen provider's own privacy policy. Avoid including sensitive information in frames or briefs you send to a provider.
Voice
AI voiceover uses the text-to-speech service of the AI provider you configure (for example OpenAI) to synthesize spoken audio from your text — governed by that provider's privacy policy. Offline Windows (SAPI) voices are processed entirely on your device.
Your control
- You decide what to capture and whether to use any online feature.
- You can delete any output at any time from your
Videos\Capturefolder. - Removing a saved API key from Settings stops it being sent anywhere.
